Rana Sanaullah says Moonis Elahi’s report on Gen Bajwa’s ‘advice’ casts doubt on the army’s apolitical narrative.
LAHORE: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Saturday called for an explanation on Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi’s statement regarding the “advice of former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, saying the statement raised doubts.” over the army’s narrative that it is “apolitical.”
In a significant revelation on Friday, Moonis claimed that PML-Q’s decision to side with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was influenced by General Bajwa’s advice to support former prime minister Imran Khan during the no-confidence motion against him.
While speaking to the media in Lahore, Sanaullah reacted to Elahi’s statement and said that the former army chief had claimed before the nation on behalf of the institution that he had no ties to politics.
“Gen Bajwa retired after completing his full tenure. His gains and losses do not matter. ” Moonis Elahi’s report has confronted the institution’s narrative, so it should be explained,” the minister said.
Sanaullah further said that the government and the national trust that the commitment the military leadership and institutions have made to the nation is “true” and “honorable.”
He said that the institution would fulfill its national duties in the country’s service with an equal commitment to making the policy evolve and the affairs to benefit the country.
While discussing the possibility of moving a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Sanaullah said no final decision had been taken.
He said the stakeholders met on Friday, and another meeting will be held today. The advice of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif will be taken.
“I feel that we should have the federal government in place in case the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies are disbanded,” he said, adding that the Sindh and Balochistan assemblies would remain in place as both governments refused to dissolve the groups. Bodies.
He said the ruling coalition would be better whether there were by-polls or general elections in Punjab.
Moving on to the economic crisis, the federal minister admitted that the current government has failed to reduce inflation.
“The destruction brought about by Imran’s [Khan] government has only been controlled by us so far,” Sanaullah said, promising to curb inflation in the coming days.
He further stated that he would present the facts during the elections.
“We will communicate to the people that this damage was not initiated by six months, but by three years. I faith the nation will consider us,” he said.
“People will listen to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif when he leads the election campaign. Nawaz Sharif will certainly come back when the Punjab assembly or general elections are held,” he said.
Sanaullah slammed PTI Chairman Imran Khan for bringing shame to the country and the nation by “stealing” Toshakhan’s watch.
In addition, the minister said there must be cooperation in politics because, without talks and negotiations, progress cannot be made. However, he said the ruling coalition has no backdoor with Elahi and will be made public if there are any talks with the PML-Q leader.
