The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has caused quite a stir within the cricketing community due to its controversial handling of the schedule and venue for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.
ACC President, Jay Shah, finds himself at the heart of this controversy, as his recent decision to relocate the venue due to rain has raised questions and sparked intense discussions.
Insiders familiar with the situation have revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed deep reservations regarding what appears to be arbitrary decision-making.
In a perplexing sequence of events, the ACC initially communicated through email, proposing a shift of the upcoming Asia Cup matches from Kindy to Hambantota.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the Asian Cricket Council later contradicted its own email, firmly asserting that the matches would proceed as originally planned.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first instance where the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has faced scrutiny for his decisions.
Previously, his management of the World Cup schedule had also drawn criticism from various quarters, leading to accusations of undermining the prestige of the event.
The PCB has taken a decisive stance in response to these developments. Rejecting the unilateral decision made by the ACC, the PCB has called for an emergency council meeting.
The Pakistan Cricket Board firmly asserts that any alteration to the venue should be a collective decision, requiring unanimous agreement from all ACC members.
