In an effort to optimize the functioning of Pakistan’s extensive motorway network, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has introduced a crucial mandate effective January 1, 2023.
The M-Tag Requirement
The NHA’s proactive approach involves making the use of M-Tags obligatory for all vehicles seeking access to the nation’s vast motorway system, which includes prominent routes like the Peshawar-Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M1), Pindi Bhattian-Multan Motorway (M4), Hakla-D.I. Khan Motorway (M14), Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5), and Hassanabdal-Mansehra Expressway (E35).
Stricter Enforcement
Starting January 1, any vehicles entering the motorways without a valid M-Tag will be subject to fines, underscoring the NHA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring compliance with this new regulation.
Proactive Measures for Motorists
To mitigate any inconveniences, motorists are strongly encouraged to complete their M-Tag registration well before the December 31, 2022, deadline.
Crucial Advisories by the National Highway Authority
In light of this new regulation, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) and the NHA have issued several important advisories for motorists:
Verification of M-Tag Registration
Motorists are urged to verify the successful completion of their M-Tag registration process to avoid penalties.
Enhanced Safety Measures in Adverse Weather
To enhance safety during adverse weather conditions, especially in dense fog, motorists are strongly advised to use fog lights. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to limit their travel on the motorways to essential trips during periods of reduced visibility due to fog.
