As the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 kicked off, Pakistan’s Team Director, Mickey Arthur, voiced his strong belief in the Green Shirts’ bowling prowess, labeling it “the best” globally. In a recent press conference, Arthur delved into a myriad of aspects, sharing his enthusiasm for the forthcoming challenges as Pakistan commenced its campaign against the Netherlands.
Despite Pakistan conceding a considerable number of runs in warm-up games, Arthur maintains that Pakistan’s bowling attack is unrivaled on the international stage. He expressed unwavering confidence, stating, “I think our bowling attack is the best in the world. If we score good runs, our bowlers can easily defend it.”
Notably, the team’s approach to announcing the playing XI has shifted. Previously, they revealed it a day before the game during the Asia Cup, but they will now make the announcement at the toss.
Arthur conveyed his team’s readiness and their striking resemblance to the squad that participated in the 2019 World Cup, describing it as “unfinished business.” He highlighted the players’ evolution into seasoned professionals during the intervening years and the impressive win-loss ratio they achieved in ODIs, making them well-prepared for the competition.
A key theme was the team’s unwavering commitment to playing their unique style of cricket, known as “The Pakistan Way,” with Arthur expressing confidence that this brand of cricket can secure victory in the World Cup.
He dismissed the notion that Pakistan’s batting relies solely on Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, emphasizing the presence of other talented batsmen, including Imam, Saud Shakeel, and Fakhar Zaman.
Vice-captain Shadab Khan, whose form has faced criticism, received strong backing from Arthur. The team director expressed optimism about Shadab’s return to form and his potential to make a significant impact in the World Cup.
Looking forward to the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash, Arthur acknowledged the inherent tension surrounding this fixture and expressed hope for two victories before facing India.
Additionally, he highlighted the warm reception the team received in India, commending Indian fans for their warm welcome.
Arthur concluded by addressing questions about the form of bowlers and opening batters, underlining the exceptional skills of the players and expressing confidence in their ability to regain their form with the right mindset and technical preparation.
Pakistan’s initial match against the Netherlands is set to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, marking the beginning of an exciting journey in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
