Pakistan Navy Day, observed today, commemorates the valor of our martyrs and honors Pakistan Navy’s remarkable performance during the 1965 Pak-Indo war. Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, the Naval Chief, acknowledged the sacrifices of our Shuhada and Ghazis, recognizing their courage and resilience, which boosted the nation’s morale in the face of a formidable adversary.
Operation Dwarka, known as ‘Operation Somnath,’ exemplified Pakistan Navy’s audacity as seven major warships ventured into enemy territory, neutralizing crucial installations like the Indian radar station and a radio beacon at Dwarka. This unexpected assault caught the Indian Navy off guard, severely denting its morale and disrupting its response. The presence of PN Submarine Ghazi further restricted the Indian Navy’s operations, confining it near the coast.
Apart from safeguarding our maritime defense, Pakistan Navy maintains a continuous presence in international waters, collaborates with regional navies to enhance interoperability, and promotes maritime security on the high seas. To address evolving security challenges, Pakistan Navy is acquiring advanced capabilities, reinforcing indigenous strengths, and striving to become a robust force in the region.
In the current landscape, Pakistan Navy also participates in nation-building initiatives, focusing on uplifting coastal communities and promoting the Blue Economy. The inaugural Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference (PIMEC), held in collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs earlier this year, garnered significant attention, with 22 foreign and 121 local exhibitors showcasing the untapped potential of Pakistan’s maritime sector.
Furthermore, Pakistan Navy initiated the Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park (PMSTP) pilot at Bahria University Karachi Campus. PMSTP is dedicated to maritime education, research, innovation, and technology development, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, foreign tech firms, and government institutions. These endeavors aim to bolster the Blue Economy, a sector with substantial growth potential that could significantly boost our national economy.
As we mark Navy Day, let’s pay homage to our Shuhada and Ghazis for their supreme sacrifices. Pakistan Navy personnel, both civilian and military, reaffirm their commitment to defending the motherland and safeguarding maritime interests against all challenges. May Allah be our Guide and Protector. Pakistan Navy Zindabad, Pakistan Paindabad.
