After a gap of seven years, Pakistan’s cricket team is set to compete on Indian soil in the ICC World Cup 2023. However, it is disheartening to note that there will be no Pakistani journalists present in the stadium’s press box on the opening day.
When questioned about the challenges faced by media personnel and fans in acquiring Indian visas for the event, senior sports journalist Abdul Majid Bhatti expressed his frustration with the Indian authorities and the International Cricket Council (ICC). He mentioned that everyone is eagerly awaiting a resolution to this issue.
Bhatti emphasized, “The World Cup had its inception in 1975 and is now in its 13th edition. Yet, it is indeed historic that no Pakistani journalists will be gracing the press box on this occasion.”
Furthermore, Bhatti disclosed that the Indian government had imposed certain conditions on South African journalists. They were required to sign an undertaking, restricting their coverage to cricket-related matters. Any violation of this agreement would lead to deportation.
